My N-sanely Crunk N Sync Experience
For those of you who couldn't make it to an *N Sync concert this year, or would just like to relive that awesome time, here's my story of what happened to me when I had my N sync experience. I kinda got carried away writing it, but I know most of you would do the same. J Email me if you'd like me to add yours. Your story can be from any N sync concert.
Click here to see my friend Annie's version of the concert. Hers is much shorter, so if you just want a brief overview, read hers. If you'd like to know every single detail then just continue reading :)
Just a quick message. I got to see them again during the No Strings Attached Tour. When I have the chance, I'll add my story about that concert :)
Anyways, it all started August 16, 1999 at 4:00 PM. Actually it started 130 days before on April 8 when I bought the tickets. My dad took me to Melody's house. Her dad would be the one taking us there. My adrenaline was rushing as I heard songs like Tearing up my Heart and Here We Go on the way to her house. I was wearing a blue N Sync bucket hat, a bracelet and matching necklace that said Lance, a fake backstage pass necklace, and a Superman t-shirt. I also had my hair in about 20 different braids. In the backseat sat a sign that read "Dawn Loves Lance". It was a big red poster board with about 170 pix and glitter on the letters. In my purse I had a camera and enough film to take about 90 pictures. I also had an *N Sync poster and some abstract drawings I did with each guy's name in it. I couldn't believe I was actually gonna see *N Sync!
I got to Melody's house and I saw her and Jason there. We waited for Danee to come, and then it happened - we took off! We weren't taking off to San Antonio yet. First we picked up Dustin. Now the party started. We put in N Sync's cd as we headed for the highway. The adrenaline was rushing, pulses racing, and anticipation growing as we chanted "When I say N, You say Sync- N Sync! N Sync!". On the way over, Melody, Danee, and I each did our nails with N Sync nail tattoos. They didn't last until the concert, but we didn't care. We were ready to get *N Sync! At around 6:30 we reached the San Antonio city limits. Melody screamed when her dad said we were there. A few minutes later, the Alamodome was in sight.
We had got stuck in a traffic jam trying to get it, but that didn't stop the excitement. I pulled the drawings out of my purse and we held them up in the windows along with the poster. Jason and Dustin were quite a site to see. Jason had the Joey drawing and was holding it up in the windsheild. All we heard from him was "I LOVE JOEY!". If you think that was crazy, then you don't even wanna know about Dustin. He was hanging out of the window holding up the JC drawing. He was screaming, "N SYNC ROCKS!" and "I LOVE YOU JC!". The ladies in the car behind us couldn't stop laughing at him. Some girls in the car in front of us were looking at him through binoculars trying to see what he'd do next. He even screamed out to some girls at the base of the hill saying "I LOVE N SYNC!". He got a very enthusiastic thumbs up from them. As the car was slowly moving, we saw several limos pass by down the hill. We screamed every time we saw one thinking it was an N Syncer. We later found out that most of the limos had fans, not band members.
At around 7:00 we finally got out of the traffic jam and were pulling into our parking lot. Jason and I each held one end of the sign as our group made the walk towards the dome. During the walk, Jason was still declaring his love for Joey as Dustin said that he wasn't worthy of what was about to happen. I was so excited as I saw many people stopping to look at my sign. I heard lots of "wows" and "cools" as we made our way towards "heaven". As we got in line to get in, the first thing people started telling me was that they were gonna take my sign at the door. "No!!!!!!" I screamed, but I then saw a sign saying that the signs would be taken to N Sync themselves. As Jason put his Joey sign in the barrel, he asked if he could get in there too so that he could get to meet the guys. I put all the drawings in and prayed that N Sync would like them. Now the fun was really about to start.
We first went on a long trek trying to find out seats. We climbed up the steps until we reached level 3. We found section 304 right away, but finding row 7 seats 4,5,and 6, as well as row 9 seats 4,5,and 6 was something else. We then noticed that there were two entrances to our section and we ran around to the other side and got in. Mel, Danee, and I took the seats on row 7, while the guys sat in row 9. The girls and I were all sqealing with delight as we realized that in just a short amount of time we'd be seeing the guys that we had all over all walls in the flesh.
At about 7:30, 3rd Storee came on. We cheered them on, but were saving our best screams for N Sync. I especially was looking forward to seeing Lance, while the other girls wanted Justin. After 3rd Storee Shawneese did a few songs. She was then followed by Jordan Knight. He gave an awesome performance and really got the crowd going. My favorite part of his show was when he said, "San Antonio, can I ask you a question? Can I? San Antonio, can I give it to you?" There was an ear splitting rush of screams as his hit song "Give It To You" started playing. He was now done, and we knew what was next - N SYNC!
I think the noise level got to the loudest point of the night when we got the first look at N Sync. Scenes from Tearing Up My Heart showed up on the screens. In about 3 seconds we found out that it was just an Herbal Essence Commercial. As we waited for the real N Sync to come on, I was chanting with Mel and Danee "I want N Sync, yes I do. I want N Sync how about you?" Finally around 9:30 the lights dimmed, the crowd screamed and then suddenly hushed, N Sync was about to come on!
First there was some guy on screen saying that he was now taking over the concert because he lost his girlfriend to N sync. He was interrupted by N sync coming onto the stage on ropes from the ceiling. They opened with Here We Go (which is my song by the way. If you read my sign, you could probably figure out what line makes me like it). I was screaming to Melody, "That's my song! They're starting with my song!" All she could do was scream and shake her head as she jumped up and down. I still to this moment could not believe what was happening. The show continued utnil about 11:00, and the songs they sang (not in this order) were: Here We Go, I Just Wanna Be With You, For the Girl Who Has Everything, God Must've Spent a Little More Time on You, You Got It, I Want You Back, I Drive Myself Crazy, Crazy For You, Sailing, That Thing You Do, Celebration, 1-2-3 A-B-C, U Drive Me Crazy, and Tearing up My Heart. Here are some highlights from the songs:
My favorite thing they did was they did a time warp. The screen started to show scenes of the 1960's. It had some of the most historical and popular events. As soon as that was over, N Sync came out and sang That Thing You Do. They wore red suits as Chris and JC did the vocals while Lance played the keyboards, Joey banged on the drums, and Justin strummed the guitar. As soon as the song was over, the screen showed scenes of the 70's. The boys then came out wearing retro outfits and afros! Some of them had big huge hats on too. Click here for a pic of them in their 70's outfits. Chris sang the lead on a Jackson 5 song, which I think is called 1-2-3, A-B-C. Then came the 80's. After a short history lesson, the guys came out in 80's attire singing Celebration. Then came the 90's. I know they sang one of their songs, but I forgot which one.
During For the Girl Who Has Everything, the guys had some girls up on stage that they sang to. I later found out that when they showed Joey serenading some girls Jason yelled out, "THAT SHOULD BE ME!" They also showed their European video for U Drive Me Crazy. When they sang I Drive Myself Crazy, they first sang the chorus a capella before singing the whole song.
Did I say the time warp was my favorite thing? I was wrong. God Must've Spent A Little More Time on You was my favorite. First of all it was introduced by Lance. He came out and said that there was something different about San Antonio. He then remarked that it's probably that God must've spent a little more time on us. The boys sang, and you could see everyone doing the dance moves to the chorus. Everytime they said a little more time on you, I'd scream out Lance's name in place of you. As it came to the last line which Justin sings as a solo, he tried to sing it, but he stopped. He tried again, but he wasn't able to finish. Chris started to get mad at him. Justin tried while Chris got mad and tried to think of what to do to get him to sing right. Justin said that he couldn't finish it because there were so many of us that he wouldn't know who to point at to show that God spent more time on them. While he was struggling, you could hear chants of Justin! Justin! Justin! Here's some of what Chris and Justin said. It's not exact, but its basically what they said. Hey you guys all got your ticket stubs right? Could all of you please step outside so that we could finish the song, and then you could come back in. Does that sound okay? Nah, Chris, that won't work. What if they turn around? No, I don't think that'd work either. What if they closed their eyes? No. After a moment of silence… What if you pick one person from the audience and sing it to them? Yeah maybe. You pick. Me? You want me to pick? Aw man. Chris then picked a small girl who was probably about 6 or 7 out of the audience. She was the cutest thing. She sat right next to Justin and just stared off into the rafters. Chris told her something, and she still continued to stare. Hold Justin's hand Chris said, and she still stayed staring. Justin grabbed her hand and started to sing the last line of the song to her as she still remained with her focus fixed somewhere else. At the end of the song, Justin kissed her twice on the cheek, and she still didn't change her focus!
The second to last song the guys did was Sailing. If you guys saw the Blockbuster Awards I think it was you'll know about how they flew over the audience. They did that here too. Then they headed backstage to do a quick costume change. The girls and I had school the next day, so we had to leave by 11:00. It was now 10:50. Melody's dad told us that after the next song we'd leave - no matter what. We started to panic because they hadn't sung giddy Up or Tearing Up My Heart.
As soon as the guys came back out, the first thing JC said was that this was going to be the last song. I looked at the other girls and all we could do was scream. The guys sang tearing up my heart, and ended it by flying and squiring fans with water. After a big finale, the show was over L
After a quick stop to buy a t-shirt and some other concert memorabilia, we headed home. Teryn, who came with Annie and her sister joined us for the ride as Mel and Danee slept in the backseat. Jason, Dustin, Teryn, Mel's dad, and I talked the whole way back. When I got home, I had to quickly undo my hair and then get to sleep. It was about 3:30 when I finally got to do this. I'd have to get up at 6:40 to be at my first day of school at 8:00. All I could say that day was, "I saw N sync!" And boy, was a sight they were!
